One of Hersheypark's newest and it's oldest (surviving) roller coasters, the Great Bear (left) and the Comet. The sky ride travel right between them.

The Great Bear is an "inverted" coaster, meaning it hangs from the track and is capable of loops and other maneuvers. It was manufactured in 1998 by B&M of Switzerland. The Great Bear is one of their smoothest so far.

Both rides are found in Comet Hollow along with the Sooperdooperlooper, the second modern true looping coaster in the world (and still a fun ride).

The Comet was built in 1946 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and was designed by Herb Schmeck who is renowned for great coasters. The Comet replaced an earlier coaster named the Wildcat (not to be confused with the current Wildcat).

All three coasters intertwine in Comet Hollow.

The Sidewinder, added in 1991, is a compact coaster with plenty of excitement. After being raised up a hill, the train is released and you fly through the station where you have just boarded. Exiting the station, you go into the boomerang section and then into the vertical loop. But that is only half the ride - now it does the whole thing backwards. The Sidewinder was manufactured by Vekoma.

Hersheypark added the Wildcat in 1996. It was the first roller coaster designed and built by the firm Great Coasters International, Inc. and was a resounding success. The Wildcat is  keeps up it's speed from the first drop to the finish while constantly crossing over it's own track.
